There are several things you can do locally. I would suggest finding a local
chapter of the LDA (Learning Disabilities Association) and of CHADD (Children
and Adults with Attention Deficit Disorder). You can gain much useful
information by interacting with others whose children have the same problems.

What you describe could be a learning disability and/or attention deficit. Or
there could be other factors at work. It sounds like an evaluation is in order
to pinpoint more closely the problem.

An evaluation can be otained through the school at no charge. Your daughter
must put the request in writing. State the reasons you believe there is a
problem and why you want the evaluation. Then she should write, "Consider this
my official request and consent for complete testing." Take the letter to the
main office (address to the principal or school psychologist), have it date
stamped (also bring a copy for you to keep and date stamp that. By law, the
school must complete the evaluation and meet with the family within 30 school
days!

You can find the links to site such as LDA and CHADD at our web site, as well
as other useful information. GOOD LUCK!
