Dear Friends:
My 12 year old son (entering seventh grade) has a non-verbal learning
disability with a 29 point spread between Verbal and Performance IQs.
Although he manages to perform academically at grade level, he has no
sense of time management, work due, or chronology and he is definitely
lacking in social skills. His school system has just dismissed him from
mandation because he scored 95% or over on all cognitive testing. His
case is now being reviewed and may go through due process to mediation.
Does any know of social awareness programs which are successful for
these kids? Also, is there anything to add to my theoretical list of
needs: laptop computer, extended time, blackboard material transcribed
to notes, check in/check out system for homework and school events,
regular counseling for self-assessment and support? All help is greatly
appreciated. Thanks in advance,
Marcia
