Our grandson who is in 5K has been having great difficulty learning anything this year. Twenty-two weeks have gone by, and he can not recognize his letters or numbers. He guesses all the time. He is in a private school. We are having him tested for any possible learning disability, but are waiting for the first available appointment.
The teacher has already said he would be retained. She has a roster of 13 students and a full time aide. I think she could be doing more. We had a talk with the principal and he denied the request that both my daughter-in-law and I could observe our grandson in the school setting and from the outside looking in without our grandson's knowledge. We would go together. they would not hear of it. We know that he is hyper and are concerned that he may be getting into trouble because he does not listen.
What rights do parents have about seeing that their children can get a good education even if they have some learning problems? The school has not been cooperative at all. Our son is paying $210.00 a month for his education from the hours of 8:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Shouldn't we expect more from them than a public school?
After our grandson has been tested and if he does have some learning disabilities, aren't there provisions for these students in the private schools as well as the public?
