In Reply to: I think its very important to determine if the child has enough language in order to interact. posted by Shelly Bower
My child, who is 3 years 2months of age was diagnosed with mild pragmatic language disorder. She has been talking on the same level for the past year, not really able to form sentences more than 2-3 words at a time.
We are going to see the speech therapist form the local school to see if she qualifies to be in a prgram for speech impaired kids. She is very bright, but does lack social skills. Sometimes she can scream in total frustration because she can't communicate. She is a strong-willed child at times and then can be a total compliant sweetheart. I am going to put her into a regular pre-school and see if just her being around kids that do talk, will help her to catch on. I just don't want her to be the odd man out and do more damage. I feel that more exposure, the better. She is still not potty trained and this could be part of her problem too. Now that I know she has a problem, even though diagnosed as "mild" I am able to use phrases that demand a reply other than yes or no. I would appreciate your input. Thanks
